did you say i was dancing?
I was honored to be chosen as a subject in this installation created by my friend Katherine Somody, an MFA graduate of Cornell University.
Titled "Did You Say I Was Dancing," this installation attempts to explore how audiences perceive and interact with dance. She had each of us (the five dancers) choreograph a 30-second piece either to silence or music. After looking through the footage, she then chose short snippets of each piece that she found most striking, removed the audio, and looped them continuously.
She designed the gallery space by overlaying the footage from each of the dancers, hoping to encourage visitors to interact with the video and talk to each other about what dance performance means to them.
How does dance make us feel?
What do we find most memorable about the performers and their movements?
